Use your camera to scan a barcode and automatically fill in the barcode data and format on your pass.

NeatPass can scan barcodes with your camera and automatically fill in both the barcode data and format. This is useful when you need to update a pass with a new barcode, fix extraction errors, or add a barcode to a manually created pass.

How to Scan a Barcode

The barcode scanner is located in the Advanced section of the pass editor.

Open a pass and tap Edit

From your library, tap any pass to open it, then tap the Edit button.

Scroll to Advanced

Scroll down to find the Advanced section near the bottom of the editor.

Tap Scan Barcode

This opens the camera view with a scanning overlay.

Point your camera at the barcode

Position the barcode within the frame. When detected, a "Barcode Detected" pill appears at the bottom.

Tap the capture button

Once the barcode is detected, tap capture. The barcode data and format are automatically filled in. Save your changes.

Supported Barcode Formats

The scanner recognizes all major barcode formats used in passes and tickets.

QR Code

Event tickets, boarding passes, membership cards

PDF417

Driver's licenses, boarding passes, shipping labels

Aztec

Airline tickets, transit passes

Code 128

Shipping labels, tickets, inventory

Detection Feedback

  • Scanning: Live camera view with an animated scanning overlay
  • Detected: "Barcode Detected" pill appears at the bottom of the screen
  • Capture: The capture button enables when a barcode is found
  • Success: Haptic feedback confirms the capture

When to Use This Feature

The barcode scanner is helpful in several situations:

  • Original barcode is damaged or unreadable
  • Updating a pass with a new barcode
  • Correcting extraction errors from the original import
  • Adding a barcode to a manually created pass

Tips for Best Results

  • Hold your phone steady for best detection
  • Ensure good lighting on the barcode
  • Fill most of the frame with the barcode
  • Works with screen-displayed barcodes too
