Live Barcode Detection: Real-Time Camera Feedback

Learn how NeatPass provides real-time visual feedback when scanning barcodes, including detection indicators and haptic confirmation.

2 min read

When you scan a barcode in NeatPass, the camera provides real-time visual feedback so you know exactly what the scanner sees and when it has found your barcode.

Visual Feedback While Scanning

The scanner uses several visual cues to guide you through the process:

Live Camera View

See exactly what the camera sees with a scanning overlay guiding the frame.

Animated Bounding Box

When a barcode is found, an animated box highlights it in the camera view.

"Barcode Detected" Indicator

A pill appears at the bottom of the screen confirming detection.

Haptic Confirmation

Feel a subtle vibration when the barcode is successfully captured.

How It Works

1

Point Your Camera

Aim your camera at the barcode. The live view shows exactly what the scanner sees.

2

Wait for Detection

Once the scanner recognizes a barcode, an animated bounding box appears around it and the "Barcode Detected" pill shows at the bottom.

3

Tap to Capture

The capture button enables when a barcode is found. Tap it and feel the haptic feedback confirming the capture.

4

Review the Data

The barcode data and format auto-populate in the pass editor. Review and save your changes.

Tips for Better Detection

Hold your phone steady for best results
Ensure good lighting on the barcode
Fill most of the frame with the barcode
Works with on-screen barcodes too

Pro Tip

If the barcode is on a screen, increase the screen brightness for faster detection. The scanner works with both printed and digital barcodes.

When to Use Barcode Scanning

The scanner is useful when you need to update or add barcode data:

  • Original barcode is damaged or unreadable
  • Updating a pass with a new barcode
  • Correcting extraction errors
  • Adding a barcode to a manually created pass
