Trenitalia is one of the few European railways with a real Apple Wallet integration in the official app. Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca, and Intercity tickets all expose an Add to Wallet button. The big exception is the new Regional Digital Ticket, which Trenitalia explicitly does not push to Apple Wallet.
Here is how the Trenitalia ticket Apple Wallet flow works for high-speed Frecce, Intercity, the regional ticket that does not fit, and what to do for PDF tickets that arrive by email instead of in the app.
How the Trenitalia App Adds Tickets to Apple Wallet
Trenitalia on iPhone exports purchased tickets to Apple Wallet from the My Journeys section. The official FAQ confirms it directly: tickets can be added to Apple or Google Wallet immediately after purchase or at a later time.
Each booked trip lives under My Journeys (Le Mie Tratte). Tap the trip, scroll into the ticket detail, and the Add to Wallet button is right next to the QR code. The pass shows the route, train number, coach, and seat assignment.

Which Trenitalia Tickets Work in Apple Wallet
Most long-distance and high-speed tickets purchased in the Trenitalia app route into Apple Wallet cleanly. The exception is the Regional Digital Ticket, which uses a dynamic in-app proof and is not Wallet-eligible.
Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca
Frecce high-speed trains are the flagship long-distance service: Frecciarossa on the high-speed network, Frecciargento on mixed-speed routes, and Frecciabianca on conventional lines. Tickets purchased in the Trenitalia app save to Apple Wallet from the My Journeys detail view, with the route, train number, coach, and seat printed on the pass and the QR code scanned by the conductor on board.
Intercity and Intercity Notte
Intercity daytime services and Intercity Notte overnight trains use the same Wallet flow as Frecce. The pass renders the train number and seat reservation, and the conductor scans the QR code through the coach.
Regional Digital Ticket (Biglietto Digitale Regionale)
The new Biglietto Digitale Regionale is the modern replacement for paper regional tickets. Trenitalia states plainly that its advanced features currently do not allow Apple Wallet support. Validation works through a dynamic green bar that animates inside the Trenitalia app when the booked train departs, and that proof cannot be reproduced as a static Wallet pass.
CartaFRECCIA and XGO
The CartaFRECCIA loyalty card and the XGO student card can both be added to Apple Wallet from the Trenitalia app. Recent app updates added Wallet support for both, so the loyalty barcode is on the Lock Screen instead of buried under the menu when collecting points or redeeming a discount.
The Regional Digital Ticket has no Wallet route
Got a Trenitalia PDF or international ticket without a Wallet button?
NeatPass makes it easy to convert any ticket, pass, or loyalty card to Apple Wallet.
When the Trenitalia Ticket Is a PDF
A few Trenitalia ticket types arrive as PDFs by email rather than through the in-app My Journeys flow: tickets bought on the Trenitalia website without signing in, group bookings, or older confirmations from before the latest app version. Apple Wallet does not open PDFs natively, so the file ends up in Mail or Files, not on the Lock Screen.
On a busy morning at Roma Termini, that means launching Mail, finding the right confirmation, scrolling to the attachment, and waiting for the PDF to render. The train pulls out before the QR code does.
When NeatPass Helps With a Trenitalia Ticket
NeatPass can create Apple Wallet passes from supported barcodes. For Trenitalia, that covers the cases where the official app does not push to Wallet: PDF tickets bought without an account, international tickets from connected operators, group booking attachments, or older confirmations that predate the in-app Wallet button.
Where NeatPass fits
- PDF or screenshot tickets: A Trenitalia confirmation PDF or an international ticket QR code can be turned into a Wallet pass with the barcode intact, so the QR code keeps working offline
- Custom design: Pick Trenitalia red, a quiet color, or anything in between so the ticket is easy to spot next to the rest of the passes
- Original PDF kept on file: NeatPass keeps the original document alongside the pass, so the booking confirmation is never more than a tap away
Where it does not help
- The Regional Digital Ticket: Validation depends on the dynamic green bar inside the Trenitalia app, not on a static barcode. A NeatPass pass cannot reproduce that proof, so the regional ticket has to stay in the official app.
- Tickets with rotating barcodes: If a Trenitalia ticket starts using a code that updates during the trip, a screenshot-based pass will not refresh. For those, use the in-app Add to Wallet flow.

Trenitalia is one of the friendlier European railways for Apple Wallet. Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca, and Intercity tickets all carry an Add to Wallet button in My Journeys, and CartaFRECCIA and XGO landed on Wallet in recent app updates as well.
The Regional Digital Ticket is the one that has to stay in the Trenitalia app, because the dynamic green bar at departure cannot live in a static pass. For everything else, the right place for an Italian train ticket is the Lock Screen, not buried inside an app menu.
