No Confirmation When Adding Pass

Why iOS 26 adds passes in the background without a preview dialog

2 min read

If you tapped "Add to Apple Wallet" and saw a success message but didn't see the usual confirmation dialog, this is expected behavior on iOS 26 and later.

Why There's No Confirmation Dialog

Starting with iOS 26, Apple introduced a new background add feature for Wallet passes. Instead of showing a preview dialog that requires you to tap "Add" again, passes are now added instantly in the background. You'll receive a system notification confirming the pass was added.

One-time permission

The first time you add a pass, iOS asks for permission to allow background additions. Once granted, all future passes are added automatically without prompts.

Troubleshooting

Pass shows 'added' but isn't in my Wallet

If your pass has a date in the past, Apple Wallet automatically archives it. See Apple Wallet troubleshooting for how to find archived passes.

iOS Version Differences

iOS 18 and earlier: Shows a preview dialog with pass details. Tap "Add" to confirm. Background add and batch add are not available.

iOS 26 and later: Passes are added in the background after a one-time permission. A notification confirms the addition. Batch add ("Add All to Wallet") requires background add.
