Apple Wallet Add Button Not Working? Fix the Handoff

The Add to Apple Wallet button is visible but inert? Check pass eligibility, the browser handoff, and signed delivery before requesting a fresh link.

A pass crosses a repaired handoff bridge into a glowing generic wallet pouch

The “Add to Apple Wallet” button is visible, but tapping it does nothing or leaves you on the same page. The link may be expired, the browser handoff may have stalled, or the issuer may not be delivering a valid signed pass.

Start from the issuer's original email, app, account, or ticket page on a supported, connected iPhone. If one clean retry still fails, request a fresh link. When a valid static barcode or document remains available, NeatPass can provide a practical Wallet fallback.

What a visible button is supposed to do

A working button hands an issuer-provided, signed pass to Apple Wallet. If the tap produces no Wallet preview or Add screen, the link, browser handoff, server response, or pass package may have interrupted delivery.

Retry the original issuer path

Use the same source that issued the ticket or card, and make one clean attempt from a current link:

1

Open the source again

Return to the issuer's email, account, or ticket detail and tap its Add to Apple Wallet button again. Do not use a screenshot of the button as a substitute.
2

Use Safari, Mail, or Files

Open the original link in Safari, or open a downloaded .pkpass attachment from Mail or Files. If the link opened inside another app, use its Open in Safari action. Safari and Mail expect the pass as application/vnd.apple.pkpass; an embedded web view may need its app to handle the download and handoff.
3

Let the handoff finish

For a normal issuer link, wait for the Wallet preview or Add screen and follow the onscreen instructions. Some apps on iOS 26 or later can request one-time authorization to add passes in the background; if the source uses that flow, verify the notification and pass in Wallet. If no pass appears, note which source and link failed.
4

Ask the issuer for a fresh link

Tell the issuer that the visible Add to Apple Wallet control does not deliver a pass. Request a newly generated link instead of repeatedly opening the same one.

For a pass created in NeatPass, the NeatPass adding-to-Wallet guide shows the app's own Wallet export flow. The issuer-native handoff above still begins with the issuer's current link or app.

Know when to stop retrying

If one clean retry still fails, ask the issuer to confirm the response and generate a fresh link. The page can keep showing a button even after the pass delivery has stopped working.

If Wallet never confirms the pass, read NeatPass guide to missing Wallet confirmation and include the issuer, pass type, device, and exact source where the tap failed in your support request.

Use a valid source for the fallback

A PDF, photo, screenshot, or barcode that remains valid can be imported into NeatPass. A screenshot of the broken button or an error page does not contain the entry credential.

Create a Wallet pass from a static card

When NeatPass is a sensible fallback

If the issuer cannot provide a Wallet pass and you have a valid static source, NeatPass can import the photo, screenshot, PDF, or supported barcode and keep it ready in Wallet. The pass is prepared on the iPhone, while the Wallet export needs a brief signing connection.

Before you start, check the NeatPass supported barcode guide so you know whether NeatPass can read the static code.

Choose the current static source

Use a static barcode or document that remains valid for entry. Rotating codes and issuer-managed updates stay in the current issuer app or a newly issued pass.

Separate issuer delivery from Wallet problems

If other passes add normally but this one does not, the issuer path is the stronger clue. The NeatPass Wallet-issues guide helps you check the handoff without treating every failed link as an iPhone-wide problem.

If several unrelated passes fail, record the exact source and result, then contact Apple or the issuer with that evidence. Avoid deleting a pass or changing unrelated settings before you know which layer failed.

Fix the delivery path first

A visible but inert Add to Apple Wallet button shows that the issuer handoff did not complete. Retry the original path in Safari, Mail, or Files, and request a fresh link when no signed pass is delivered.

When a valid static source is available, NeatPass can turn it into a practical Wallet pass and retain the original alongside it. Keep the issuer's current app or reissued pass for rotating codes and live updates.
