Apple Wallet collects passes over time. Old boarding passes, expired event tickets, and outdated loyalty cards pile up until scrolling through your Wallet feels like digging through a junk drawer.

The good news: cleaning up Apple Wallet is straightforward once you know where to look. Here is how to delete old passes, understand what happens when you do, and keep your Wallet organized going forward.

How to Delete a Pass from Apple Wallet

Deleting a single pass takes just a few taps. Here is the process for any pass type:

1

Open Apple Wallet

Launch the Wallet app on your iPhone. You will see all your active passes, cards, and tickets in a scrollable stack.
2

Select the pass you want to remove

Tap the pass you want to delete. It will expand to show the full pass details, including the barcode and any relevant information.
3

Tap the three-dot menu

Look for the three-dot icon (or ellipsis button) in the top-right corner of the pass. Tap it to open the pass options menu.
4

Tap Pass Details

In the menu that appears, tap 'Pass Details' to open the full details view for the pass.
5

Select Remove Pass

Tap 'Remove Pass' at the bottom of the Pass Details screen. Confirm the deletion when prompted. The pass is removed from Wallet on that iPhone, and related Apple devices may also update depending on your Wallet setup.

Before you delete

Deletion is permanent. Apple Wallet does not have an undo option or a trash folder. If you think you might need a pass again, consider archiving it instead of deleting it.

What Happens When You Delete a Pass

Deleting a pass affects more than just your screen. Here is what actually happens behind the scenes:

Removed from this device

The pass disappears from Wallet on the iPhone where you removed it, and related devices may also update

Underlying account stays separate

Removing a pass from Wallet does not itself cancel the reservation, membership, or ticket behind it

Membership stays active

Your actual membership, booking, or ticket remains valid with the original issuer. Only the digital shortcut is gone

Can be re-added

If the pass came from an airline, app, email, or website, you may be able to add it again from the issuer. Custom passes need to be recreated

Not sure if you should delete an expired pass? Some expired passes still contain useful reference numbers or booking details. Read about why expired passes can still be valuable before removing them.

Expired Passes and Auto-Hiding

Apple Wallet can automatically hide some expired passes so they do not clutter your main view. This is different from deleting. Hidden passes still exist on your device and can usually be viewed by tapping 'View Expired Passes' at the bottom of Wallet.

To enable auto-hiding, go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Hide Expired Passes. This moves expired passes to a separate section at the bottom rather than removing them entirely.

This is a good middle ground if you are not ready to permanently delete a pass but want a cleaner main view.

Wallet Cleanup Strategies

Deleting passes one by one works, but a systematic approach saves time and prevents accidental deletion. Here are practical strategies for keeping your Wallet tidy:

Enable auto-hide for expired passes

Turn on Hide Expired Passes in Settings so old boarding passes and event tickets move out of sight automatically

Save details before deleting

Screenshot passes that contain booking references, confirmation numbers, or other details you might need later before removing them

Start with duplicates

Look for passes you added more than once or old versions of cards that have been re-issued. These are safe to remove first

Schedule monthly cleanups

Set a monthly reminder to review your Wallet. Delete passes from events that already happened and trips that are over

Use Wallet stacks

Apple Wallet groups similar passes automatically. Keep an eye on stacks like boarding passes or store cards to spot expired ones faster

Reorder your remaining passes

After cleaning up, keep the passes you use most often easy to reach in Wallet

Better Pass Management with NeatPass

Apple Wallet's built-in tools are limited when it comes to organization. NeatPass adds separate organization features inside NeatPass that make cleanup and long-term management easier.

You can edit pass details to keep information current, use Home Screen widgets for instant access to frequently used passes inside the NeatPass workflow, and set up Lock Screen widgets.

Works without internet

Passes already stored on your device can still be viewed without a connection, so cleanup and access stay available while you are offline. Learn about offline mode and how to add passes to Apple Wallet.
