RMV HandyTicket in Apple Wallet: The RMVgo Reality

RMVgo has no Apple Wallet button for single and day HandyTickets. Here is how the RMV ticket really works and how to get the static barcode on your screen.

The RMV does not offer an Apple Wallet export for single and day HandyTickets. Every inspection means opening the RMVgo app, finding the ticket, and waiting for the control view to load. Here is how the RMV HandyTicket really works, and where NeatPass can put the barcode on the lock screen.

This guide stays strictly on the RMVgo app tickets bought as Einzelfahrt or Tageskarte. The Deutschlandticket follows a separate path and has a dedicated guide linked at the end.

How the RMV HandyTicket works

The RMV HandyTicket is the in-app single or day ticket bought through the RMVgo app of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund. It lives inside the app and is shown through a Kontrollansicht, the control view, under Tickets, then Meine Tickets. There is no "Add to Apple Wallet" button for these tickets.

Technically the ticket carries a static Aztec 2D barcode following the VDV-Kernapplikation standard, also called RMV-EFS or Statische Berechtigung. The barcode data does not rotate or change per refresh, which matters for what comes next.

The Apple Wallet situation with RMV tickets

RMVgo offers no Wallet export for single and day HandyTickets. The barcode is static, but RMV keeps it inside the app for inspection. Here is what that means in practice.

What works today

Tickets stored locally

HandyTickets are saved on the device, so no internet is needed during inspection

Static Aztec barcode

The VDV-KA code does not rotate, so the same barcode shows on every refresh

Deutschlandticket export

The Deutschlandticket has a separate native Wallet path, covered in a dedicated guide

What is not available

Wallet export for HandyTickets

RMVgo has no "Add to Apple Wallet" button for Einzelfahrt or Tageskarte

RMV-In/Out and RMVsmart

The check-in and distance-based tariffs offer no native Wallet export either

A saved screenshot as proof

RMV requires the live ticket in RMVgo, a screenshot alone counts as no valid ticket

What the RMV terms require

The RMV terms state the ticket must be shown in full on the smartphone display for inspection, and the rider is responsible for the device being ready. If you were logged in when buying, you must be logged in when showing it. Failure to display the live ticket counts as Fahrt ohne gültigen Fahrausweis, a trip without a valid ticket. Always carry an official photo ID.

Deutschlandticket is a different story

If you ride the Rhein-Main region on the Deutschlandticket, the path is different. The Deutschlandticket has a separate native Apple Wallet export and is not an RMVgo single or day HandyTicket. The Deutschlandticket Apple Wallet overview covers RMV, VRR, VRS, VVS, and the rest.

This guide focuses only on the in-app Einzelfahrt and Tageskarte, the tickets with no Wallet export of their own.

What NeatPass can do for an RMV HandyTicket

NeatPass creates Apple Wallet passes from supported barcode formats. Because the RMV HandyTicket uses a static Aztec barcode, that visible code can be turned into a Wallet pass from a screenshot, a photo, or a PDF, preserving the exact same barcode data.

Where the NeatPass copy helps

Where the NeatPass copy falls short

  • Not an official RMV ticket: RMV requires the live ticket inside RMVgo in the logged-in control view, so a Wallet barcode may not satisfy an inspection
  • RMV-In/Out and RMVsmart: check-in and distance-based fares are tied to the app and cannot be exported as a static pass

The Wallet pass is a convenience copy, not a ticket

A NeatPass pass carries the same barcode, but it is not the official RMV ticket surface. Keep RMVgo installed, keep the active ticket loaded, and verify acceptance before relying on the Wallet copy. Never treat the Wallet pass as a valid RMV ticket on its own. On privacy, everything runs on the device with no accounts and no cloud uploads, as the privacy FAQ explains.

Save an RMV barcode to Wallet with NeatPass

For the static Aztec barcode shown in the RMVgo control view:

1

Open the ticket in RMVgo

Open RMVgo, go to Tickets, then Meine Tickets, and open the control view so the full Aztec barcode is readable.
2

Capture the barcode

Take a screenshot, photo, or save the ticket PDF. The barcode should be clear and not cropped.
3

Import into NeatPass

Open NeatPass, tap the plus button, and pick the screenshot or file. NeatPass supports several import methods, so use whichever source is handy.
4

Process on device

On-device AI reads the barcode and ticket details and fills in title and date automatically.
5

Add to Apple Wallet

Name the pass, for example "RMV Einzelfahrt", pick colors, then add it to Wallet for quick access from the lock screen.

Keep RMVgo as the source of truth

Leave RMVgo installed with the active ticket loaded. Open it once online before the trip so the current state is ready, and re-login at least every 14 days for time cards. The Wallet pass is a fast convenience copy, while RMVgo stays the ticket inspectors expect to see.

Quick Access at the Platform

The RMV runs a large Rhein-Main network, but Apple Wallet only features in it for the Deutschlandticket so far. Single and day HandyTickets stay inside RMVgo with no Wallet export of their own.

For the static Aztec barcode, the NeatPass copy puts the code on the lock screen for fast, offline access. Keep RMVgo as the official ticket for inspection, and let the Wallet pass handle the everyday quick glance.

Riding on the Deutschlandticket as well? The Deutschlandticket Apple Wallet overview shows what RMV, VRR, VRS, and VVS do. In Munich, MVV and MVG tickets in Apple Wallet face the same app-only setup, and in the capital BVG tickets in Apple Wallet round out the picture.
