VGN provides official tickets through both the VGN app and Online Shop. Eligible HandyTickets can also be saved as an issuer-generated phone image without installing the app, while PrintTickets are provided as PDFs for printing. The current VGN app and Online Shop flow has no issuer-provided Add to Apple Wallet route. This guide explains which official offline path to use and when a separate Wallet shortcut is supported.
The important distinction is the barcode. A fixed barcode that the issuer allows you to display independently is different from a VGN Flow control code generated for an active check-in and current ride. Treating both as interchangeable can leave you with a pass that looks right but is not a valid ticket.
How VGN HandyTickets work today
Buy and manage tickets through the VGN app or the VGN Online Shop. Valid tickets synchronize between a signed-in app and shop account. For eligible HandyTickets, the shop can generate a phone image that can be downloaded without installing the app. PrintTickets are provided as PDFs for printing; the Shop or app may also offer a mobile display for eligible products.
Use an official VGN source
The VGN app, Online Shop, and issuer-generated ticket image or PDF preserve the ticket and its validity in the formats VGN provides.
Eligible downloads work offline
An issuer-generated HandyTicket image or PrintTicket PDF can be saved on the device and shown without a live connection.
No issuer Wallet button
The current VGN app and shop do not provide a native Add to Apple Wallet flow for HandyTickets.
Keep VGN Flow in the official app
Which VGN tickets does this cover?
This article covers ordinary VGN HandyTickets bought through the official app or Online Shop. Some eligible HandyTickets can be downloaded as an issuer-generated phone image, while PrintTickets are provided as PDFs for printing. The VGN shop FAQ remains the right place to check which official format a specific ticket supports.
Not every product has an image or PDF export. VGN Flow, Deutschlandticket subscriptions, personalized passes, and other account-bound products may need the official provider app and the required identification. An issuer-generated ticket image is different from a user screenshot of a dynamic or app-bound code.
Use NeatPass for an approved fixed barcode
NeatPass creates Apple Wallet passes from NeatPass supported barcode formats. Use that route when an issuer gives you a genuinely fixed barcode and explicitly allows it to be displayed outside the issuer app. Keep VGN Flow and personalized VGN products in their official source.
The approved static-source route
- Start with the issuer's rules: use the NeatPass import methods only for a fixed barcode that the issuer permits you to show independently
- Keep quick access: once a valid pass has been added, the NeatPass Wallet pass works offline and can be opened without launching the source app
Keep the official source
- VGN Flow is app-bound: its control barcode is generated for an active check-in and stored in the app during the ride. A screenshot or static Wallet copy does not preserve that current state and is not a valid conversion
- The official ticket remains required: keep the issuer-generated HandyTicket image or PrintTicket PDF, or the official app when the product is app-bound, plus any required photo ID ready for inspection

DownloadKeep the official VGN ticket ready
Start with the official format VGN provides for the specific ticket. That may be an issuer-generated HandyTicket image, a PrintTicket PDF, a product-specific mobile display, or a downloaded ticket in the VGN app. Save it before travel and keep any required identification ready.
Use Apple Wallet for a separate fixed barcode only when its issuer permits independent display. Keep VGN Flow and personalized products in the official app, and keep the issuer-generated image, PDF, or required identification with the ticket.
