iOS 26 brought the biggest update to Apple Wallet since its launch. Credit card AutoFill, AI-powered order tracking, redesigned boarding passes, and a brand-new Digital ID feature all arrived with the September 2025 release.

Some of these changes are obvious the moment you update. Others are buried in menus. Here is a complete breakdown of what changed, what you need to use each feature, and where NeatPass fits in.

What Changed in iOS 26

Apple added six major capabilities to the Wallet app. Each one addresses a long-standing gap.

Credit card AutoFill

Store full card details and autofill them in any app or browser

AI order tracking

Apple Intelligence scans emails for shipping updates automatically

Redesigned boarding passes

Live Activities, airport maps, and luggage tracking built into passes

Digital ID

Create an ID from your U.S. passport for TSA checkpoints and apps

Rewards and installments

Pay with credit card rewards or installment plans at in-store checkouts

Verify with Wallet

Use your ID in Wallet for age and identity verification on websites

Credit Card AutoFill Everywhere

Before iOS 26, Wallet's AutoFill only worked in Safari. If you used Chrome, Firefox, or any third-party browser, you were on your own. iOS 26 extends AutoFill across the entire system. Tap a payment field in any app or browser, authenticate with Face ID, and the card details fill in automatically.

You can also store cards that do not support Apple Pay. Wallet now holds the full card number, expiration date, and CVV for any credit or debit card. This turns Wallet into a secure card vault, not just a tap-to-pay tool.

For loyalty and membership cards that use barcodes rather than card numbers, NeatPass converts them into proper Wallet passes. See the import methods guide for details.

Where to manage AutoFill cards

Open Apple Wallet, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, and select AutoFill. Existing cards from Safari and Apple Pay import automatically.

AI-Powered Order Tracking

Order tracking existed in Wallet since iOS 16, but it required merchants to actively support it. Few bothered. iOS 26 takes a different approach. Apple Intelligence scans your emails on-device to find order confirmations and shipping updates, then consolidates everything into a single Orders view inside Wallet.

The system detects tracking numbers automatically and pushes status notifications as packages move from shipment to delivery. No merchant integration needed.

Requires Apple Intelligence

AI-powered order tracking needs an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, iPhone 17, or iPhone Air. Older devices can still view orders that merchants send directly to Wallet, but they will not get the automatic email scanning.

Redesigned Boarding Passes

Boarding passes got the most visible overhaul. Apple redesigned them into lightweight trip dashboards that surface information you actually need at the airport. Key improvements include:

  • Live Activities showing real-time gate changes, delays, and boarding status on your lock screen
  • Airport navigation with terminal maps, routes to your gate, and nearby amenities
  • Luggage tracking via Find My for AirTag-equipped bags, accessible directly from the pass
  • Flight sharing that lets you send live status updates to family without revealing your seat or boarding group

NeatPass boarding passes are fully compatible with these features. Add your boarding pass to Apple Wallet and the Live Activity appears automatically when your flight is recognized.

Airline support is growing

United, Delta, Southwest, and Air Canada already support the redesigned experience. American Airlines, JetBlue, Lufthansa Group, Qantas, and others are rolling out throughout 2026. For a detailed guide, see our Live Flight Tracking help article.

Digital ID with Your Passport

Digital ID launched with iOS 26.1 in November 2025. Instead of waiting for your state to support a digital driver's license, you can create an ID in Wallet using your U.S. passport. The setup process involves scanning your passport, reading the embedded NFC chip, and completing a facial verification.

At launch, Digital ID works at TSA checkpoints in more than 250 U.S. airports and for identity verification in select apps and websites via Verify with Wallet. It is not a replacement for a physical passport and cannot be used for international travel.

Apple designed Digital ID with strong privacy protections. Passport data is encrypted and stored on-device, not in iCloud. Apple cannot see when or where you use it. If privacy matters to you, see how NeatPass handles your data with similar on-device principles.

Apple Pay: Rewards and Installments In-Store

Apple Pay now lets you choose installment plans at in-store checkouts through partners like Affirm, Klarna, and Synchrony. Rewards redemption is expanding to in-store purchases with select card issuers including Synchrony and U.S. Bank.

This is a smaller change than the others, but it makes Apple Pay meaningfully more flexible for everyday purchases.

How NeatPass Complements iOS 26

iOS 26 made Apple Wallet more capable, but it still does not solve one fundamental problem: most loyalty cards, membership cards, and event tickets lack native Wallet support. NeatPass fills that gap.

  • Convert any barcode card into a proper Wallet pass that works with location alerts, lock screen access, and Apple Watch sync
  • Scan physical cards using your camera with on-device AI recognition
  • Import from screenshots, PDFs, emails, or clipboard
  • Customize pass designs with colors, labels, and grouping

Every NeatPass pass works completely offline and is accessible from your lock screen widget in a single tap.

Device Compatibility

Not every iOS 26 Wallet feature works on every iPhone. Here is the breakdown:

  • AutoFill, boarding passes, Apple Pay rewards: Any iPhone running iOS 26
  • AI order tracking: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, iPhone 17, or iPhone Air (requires Apple Intelligence)
  • Digital ID: iPhone 11 or later with iOS 26.1
  • Live Activities on boarding passes: iPhone 14 Pro or later (Dynamic Island required for compact view)

NeatPass itself runs on any iPhone with iOS 18.1 or later, so all iOS 26 devices are supported.
