Austrian Airlines issues Apple Wallet boarding passes through the Austrian iOS app and the email check-in confirmation. After online check-in, the boarding pass screen offers Add to Apple Wallet on iPhone.

The pass works like any other iOS boarding pass: it shows up on the lock screen near departure, brightens automatically at the gate scanner, and reads offline if airport Wi-Fi drops. iOS 26 adds a redesigned Wallet boarding pass for some carriers, and this guide is honest about where Austrian Airlines fits in that rollout right now.

How to Add the Austrian Boarding Pass to Apple Wallet

The Austrian iOS app is the most reliable path. Austrian Airlines refreshed its branded Apple Wallet boarding pass design in 2019, and the flow has stayed consistent since.

1

Install the Austrian app

Download the Austrian app from the App Store and sign in with the Miles and More or My Austrian account.
2

Run online check-in

Open the trip in the app and complete check-in within 47 hours of departure. Online check-in is also available on austrian.com.
3

Open the boarding pass

Tap the boarding pass for the traveller and flight leg. Each passenger and each leg has a separate pass.
4

Tap Add to Apple Wallet

Use the Add to Wallet button on the pass screen, confirm the preview, and tap Add. The pass installs in Apple Wallet right away.
5

Or use the check-in email

On iOS, the Austrian Airlines check-in confirmation email also exposes the Add to Apple Wallet button on the boarding pass attachment.

For general installation tips that apply to any pass, see the guide to adding passes to Wallet.

iOS 26 Boarding Passes and Austrian Airlines

iOS 26 introduced a redesigned Wallet boarding pass with Live Flight Tracking, Apple Maps integration, destination guides, and Find My Baggage. Apple has been adding airlines to that experience over time.

Honest status as of April 2026

Austrian Airlines is not on Apple's currently published list of carriers using the redesigned iOS 26 Wallet boarding pass with Live Flight Tracking. The pass still installs and scans normally, and Apple treats it like any other PKPass for the standard Wallet behaviour.

Auto-brightness at scanners

Apple Wallet brightens the screen automatically when the boarding pass is open at the gate reader.

Lock screen suggestion

The pass surfaces near departure time, including a quick double-tap from the side button.

Works offline

The barcode is stored on the device, so the pass renders without an internet connection.

Live Activity if Austrian enables it

Live Activities for gate or terminal depend on the pass template. If Austrian does not push updates, the pass stays static.

Compared to a fresh check of iOS 26 live flight tracking, a static Wallet pass still beats reopening the airline app at the gate. For the broader ecosystem changes, see the iOS 26 Wallet feature overview.

If the Add to Apple Wallet Button Is Missing

Bookings made through travel agencies, corporate portals, or older reservations sometimes do not expose the Add to Apple Wallet button, even after a clean check-in. The PDF and the barcode itself still work as the source.

1

Get the PDF or screenshot the barcode

Download the PDF boarding pass from the Austrian check-in email, or screenshot the mobile boarding pass with the full barcode visible.
2

Open NeatPass and import the file

Pick the PDF or photo from the share sheet, Files, or Photos. No account, no cloud upload.
3

Let on-device AI fill the pass

NeatPass uses Apple's MLX framework on-device to detect the barcode and read flight number, date, and route from the source. Review and edit any field before saving.
4

Add the Wallet pass

Tap Add to Apple Wallet. The barcode data matches the original, so the gate scanner reads the same information.

Austrian Airlines boarding passes typically use Aztec or PDF417, both covered by the supported barcode formats. For other ways to feed a screenshot, PDF, or photo into the app, see the import methods overview.

Status, Boarding Group, and Star Alliance

Austrian Airlines is part of Star Alliance, and Miles and More tiers map to priority boarding groups. The boarding group is encoded in the barcode and printed on the pass, so scanners and gate agents see the tier regardless of how the Wallet pass looks.

What the pass reliably shows
  • Boarding group number in the pass fields
  • Flight number, gate, terminal, and seat
  • Priority and Star Alliance markers printed by Austrian
  • Barcode that scanners read for group and priority
Things that vary
  • Exact visual tier badge on the pass template
  • Star Alliance Gold marker placement
  • Background image and colours between flights
  • Upgrade fields that update close to departure

Why a Wallet Pass Beats the Austrian App at the Gate

The Austrian app is good on the couch. At a busy gate in Vienna or on a Star Alliance hub, Apple Wallet is faster and more reliable than launching an app and tapping through menus.

Double-tap side button

Wallet opens straight to the pass, no app launch or menus.

Reads in airplane mode

The pass stays usable even when the airport Wi-Fi gets congested.

Lock screen suggestion

The pass surfaces automatically as departure approaches.

Privacy-first

Pass data stays on the device alongside other Wallet items.

The offline behaviour comes for free with Wallet. For more detail, see offline mode, and for a quick gate-and-seat glance without unlocking, set up lock screen widgets. Privacy details for any pass NeatPass creates are spelled out in the privacy FAQ.

Quick Access at the Gate

Austrian Airlines native Wallet support handles most travellers, and a PDF fallback handles the rest. Either way, Wallet keeps the boarding pass a double-tap away when boarding starts at the gate.

For bookings that arrived as a PDF, see the guide to converting PDF boarding passes to Wallet. Travellers connecting on Lufthansa Group can also check the Lufthansa boarding pass guide, and frequent flyers planning more than one trip should look at summer travel boarding passes.
